Final Day- June 12 2009- Friday

Final day of Project 3 for me…since I am going to be in Batam on the real official date, I had to present to my lecturer today. But my work will only be marked on the same day as everyone else, so he did not comment for my work. Guess I have to wait until the grades come out…
Anyway, I learned some things in this whole process, both technical and conceptual.
• Write your ideas down before putting in a storyboard.
• When coloring using Paint Bucket in Photoshop, increase tolerance so wit will not look pixelated.
• Use thicker, straighter lines (must improve linework), and for straight lines, use Pen Tool or Shift.
• Photo reference…ALWAYS
Hopefully, in the future for FYP, I will not make these same mistakes again. I also have to be less lazy if I want to achieve anything. This is the first time I did an animation piece individually, so it was really challenging yet exciting at the same time to see what I can accomplish. Hope I do not fail Project 3…

Day 34- June 10 2009- Wednesday

I did final compilation today…combining all my shots and audio together in Adobe Premiere Pro. Then I realised that that is something wrong with the lip-sync for Shot 17 (officer asking woman). May have to fix that part tomorrow…submission on Friday at 2pm.

Day 33- June 9 2009- Tuesday

I did all the necessary editing today…and by tomorrow, Wednesday, I should be doing final compilation. Still need to find a walking sound effect though for Shot 02 (husband approaching woman)…

Day 32- June 8 2009- Monday

Yes, I finally Flashed out all my shots!! (Happy Dance) Which is lucky that I finished the important stuff today…I consulted with my lecturer today, and though she is pleased with the improvements I made to some shots, she pointed out that there is still some editing to do. Also, Vivien helped to point out the ‘eyelash’ mistake (eyelashes, when in front, never go the same direction). So, I guess I should be making the necessary edits:
• For the Added Shot, my camera can just go up and down, instead of all over the place (I did not know a jerky shot can make a person vomit). More shadows should be added to add tonal value. Composition also needs to be adjusted.
• For the improved living room in Shot 02, the shadow should be replaced by an over-shoulder shot of the husband. More shadows to be added for tonal value.
• Eyelashes should be re-arranged that they do not go the same direction.
• Eye in Shot 05 should look more like an eye (rounder, iris circular, pupil dilates when scared)
• The gun in Shot 03 still looks wrong, as with the hand holding it. Needs reference…
I guess these are the changes I need to make…hope to finish making these changes by tomorrow, so that I can focus on final compilation….I need to hit the sack…zzzzz….

Day 31- June 5 2009- Friday

Today, I Flashed out some shots in Adobe Flash…how I Flash a scene, is that when I am done drawing up frames in Photoshop, I will export the frames into Flash for pace and timing before exporting as a final Quicktime clip. I Flashed out eight shots (including that added shot), so I have eight shots left to Flash out. Hope to finish Flashing everything by Tuesday to make way for final compilation and editing…submission and presentation on 12 June…should be doing final credits tomorrow…

Day 30- June 4 2009- Thursday

I managed to do the necessary edits last night…may have to do one more edit later (the sleeve of the officer in Shot 08 looks chopped off).
Other then that minor edit for Shot 08, I plan to add shadows to a few shots where most of the background is seen (examples will be the living room and the corridor).
That makes it two things to be done today.
Since I do not have the Flash software at home (Photoshop is all I have), I guess I have to do all my ‘Flashing’ in school. I have 15 scenes left to Flash out before I deem myself ready to present.
This is all for now…better go edit and tone now…

Day 29- June 3 2009- Wednesday

I had presentation today, and it seems my Flash-ing out of scenes may have to wait a bit; apparently, I still have plenty of editing to do.
Seriously crushed, stressed, worried, angry, and a whole lot of negative emotions.
I do not have all the time in the world to take in everybody’s comments (everybody else has three days grace, not me), so guess I have to burn the midnight oil as usual to do the required editing, since I really want to Flash out my shots ASAP, preferably tomorrow:
• The living room the woman was in looked too tight and grey, like a prison cell.
• Foreshortening was not there in Shot 03 (gun raised)
• Shot 06 (gunshot is heard) should be black, and not white.
• For Shot 05 (eye widens), put a view of the gun in the iris to indicate it’s the woman’s eye
Yep, that will be the editing I have to do for tonight, and hopefully, I can start on Flash…
I did manage to record my own voice for my Officer’s VO, and lowered the pitch to make sound male, so I guess that is the silver lining from today’s cloud.
Never been so mad after a critique before…
