Final Day- June 12 2009- Friday

Final day of Project 3 for me…since I am going to be in Batam on the real official date, I had to present to my lecturer today. But my work will only be marked on the same day as everyone else, so he did not comment for my work. Guess I have to wait until the grades come out…
Anyway, I learned some things in this whole process, both technical and conceptual.
• Write your ideas down before putting in a storyboard.
• When coloring using Paint Bucket in Photoshop, increase tolerance so wit will not look pixelated.
• Use thicker, straighter lines (must improve linework), and for straight lines, use Pen Tool or Shift.
• Photo reference…ALWAYS
Hopefully, in the future for FYP, I will not make these same mistakes again. I also have to be less lazy if I want to achieve anything. This is the first time I did an animation piece individually, so it was really challenging yet exciting at the same time to see what I can accomplish. Hope I do not fail Project 3…

Day 34- June 10 2009- Wednesday

I did final compilation today…combining all my shots and audio together in Adobe Premiere Pro. Then I realised that that is something wrong with the lip-sync for Shot 17 (officer asking woman). May have to fix that part tomorrow…submission on Friday at 2pm.

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

Day 33- June 9 2009- Tuesday

I did all the necessary editing today…and by tomorrow, Wednesday, I should be doing final compilation. Still need to find a walking sound effect though for Shot 02 (husband approaching woman)…

Monday, June 8, 2009

Day 32- June 8 2009- Monday

Yes, I finally Flashed out all my shots!! (Happy Dance) Which is lucky that I finished the important stuff today…I consulted with my lecturer today, and though she is pleased with the improvements I made to some shots, she pointed out that there is still some editing to do. Also, Vivien helped to point out the ‘eyelash’ mistake (eyelashes, when in front, never go the same direction). So, I guess I should be making the necessary edits:
• For the Added Shot, my camera can just go up and down, instead of all over the place (I did not know a jerky shot can make a person vomit). More shadows should be added to add tonal value. Composition also needs to be adjusted.
• For the improved living room in Shot 02, the shadow should be replaced by an over-shoulder shot of the husband. More shadows to be added for tonal value.
• Eyelashes should be re-arranged that they do not go the same direction.
• Eye in Shot 05 should look more like an eye (rounder, iris circular, pupil dilates when scared)
• The gun in Shot 03 still looks wrong, as with the hand holding it. Needs reference…
I guess these are the changes I need to make…hope to finish making these changes by tomorrow, so that I can focus on final compilation….I need to hit the sack…zzzzz….

Friday, June 5, 2009

Day 31- June 5 2009- Friday

Today, I Flashed out some shots in Adobe Flash…how I Flash a scene, is that when I am done drawing up frames in Photoshop, I will export the frames into Flash for pace and timing before exporting as a final Quicktime clip. I Flashed out eight shots (including that added shot), so I have eight shots left to Flash out. Hope to finish Flashing everything by Tuesday to make way for final compilation and editing…submission and presentation on 12 June…should be doing final credits tomorrow…

Thursday, June 4, 2009

Day 30- June 4 2009- Thursday

I managed to do the necessary edits last night…may have to do one more edit later (the sleeve of the officer in Shot 08 looks chopped off).
Other then that minor edit for Shot 08, I plan to add shadows to a few shots where most of the background is seen (examples will be the living room and the corridor).
That makes it two things to be done today.
Since I do not have the Flash software at home (Photoshop is all I have), I guess I have to do all my ‘Flashing’ in school. I have 15 scenes left to Flash out before I deem myself ready to present.
This is all for now…better go edit and tone now…

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Day 29- June 3 2009- Wednesday

I had presentation today, and it seems my Flash-ing out of scenes may have to wait a bit; apparently, I still have plenty of editing to do.
Seriously crushed, stressed, worried, angry, and a whole lot of negative emotions.
I do not have all the time in the world to take in everybody’s comments (everybody else has three days grace, not me), so guess I have to burn the midnight oil as usual to do the required editing, since I really want to Flash out my shots ASAP, preferably tomorrow:
• The living room the woman was in looked too tight and grey, like a prison cell.
• Foreshortening was not there in Shot 03 (gun raised)
• Shot 06 (gunshot is heard) should be black, and not white.
• For Shot 05 (eye widens), put a view of the gun in the iris to indicate it’s the woman’s eye
Yep, that will be the editing I have to do for tonight, and hopefully, I can start on Flash…
I did manage to record my own voice for my Officer’s VO, and lowered the pitch to make sound male, so I guess that is the silver lining from today’s cloud.
Never been so mad after a critique before…

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

Day 28- June 2 2009- Tuesday

There is more editing to be done today before I start Flash-ing out the scenes. Edits to be done today are:
• Edit hand grip and phone shape in Shot 08 (officer on phone).
• Correct anatomy and proportion of woman’s leg in Shot 01 (pan up to reveal woman reading)
• Edit cloth on woman’s head to make it look like a stained rag, or maybe change its colour
Better get to work now…only a week left…

Monday, June 1, 2009

Day 27- June 1 2009- Monday

Yes, I am 80% there…finished up animating all my scenes over the weekend. That is the three shots left: Shot 22 (woman asking for husband), Shot 23 (officer pointing to corpse) and Shot 28 (Credits…well, nearly).
Yes, I am nearly there and all I need to do now is put the scenes into Flash to arrange time, before exporting as Quicktime.
Except there are still some things to edit and do before I can consider this done:
• Record my officer’s VO, so I can do proper credits (I still have not found that one suitable person
• Change textures for HDB corridors (thinking of switching from pattern to full solid color)
• Edit hand in Shot 03 (gun being raised) to make it look more masculine
• Edit cloth on woman’s head to look more like a stained rag
• Edit hand coming down in Shot 07 (hand reaching for phone) so it looks more like the intended left hand
• Edit Shot 08 (officer on phone), so shape of hand grip and phone looks correct
• Make officer blink during long pause in Shot 08
Yes, quite a bit of things to do. So today I will:
• Change textures for corridor to solid color
• Edit hand in Shot 03 to make it look more masculine
• Edit hand coming down in Shot 07 to make it look like intended left hand
This will be all for now…

Day 26- May 28 2009- Thursday

Today, our lecturer was not around, so we were given the choice to work in school or at home. I animated Shot 27 (The End) today, just three more shots left…and I still need my male VO!

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Day 27- May 27 2009- Wednesday

I did up a rough uncolored of the added shot I decided to put after Shot 10 (running). Basically, this shot is just a jerky pan and tilt (POV running) on a wide picture of a corridor. I also animated Shot 02 (door open to reveal shadow) and Shot 14 ( hand opening door). That’s all for now…

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Day 24- May 26 2009- Tuesday

My lecturer saw me again today, and I showed her my completed scenes (the ones which I put into Flash then exported as Quicktime), and she also gave some ideas for changes:
* For Shot 07 (hand picking up phone), the hand coming down looked more like the right hand (thumb was shown) than the left hand it should be.
* For Shot 08 (police officer on phone), during the long pause, the officer should blink. Not only that, the grip on the phone looked wrong, and the phone looks more like a bone.
She also gave me some advice on character design, as my guidelines were off. She told me that it is best to draw out the guidelines and rough sketch of character first on paper, before scanning into Photoshop.
Well, I have eights shot left to do by this Sunday, so the next two weeks can be for editing, doing two extra shots, audio mixing and final compilation. So today, I plan to animate Shot 13 (officer's eye looks to side) and Shot 15 (officer' eyes widen). That's all for now...

Monday, May 25, 2009

Day 23- 25 May 2009- Monday

Over the weekend, I did up Shots 25 (woman offering tea) and Shot 06 (white screen). Nine more shots left...
Anyway, I learned something new from my lecturer today: Thumbdrives and hard-drives are SOLELY for back-up and data transport. Most of us, including me, were working from our thumbdrives and we learned that in doing so, we are damaging our drives, which may eventually die. Now that's a scary thought; best advice: Back-up on the school computer and your personal laptop.
My lecturer finally saw me today, and I showed her what I have done so far. She did have a lot to say, so here is what I can remember from her advice:
* The sequence of the from when the policeman receives the call to him running to him seeing the body of the husband is way too abrupt; she adviced me to add a few more shots to show location switch (like him running towards a house). I decided to add one or two shots for that.
* Sound effects for blood dripping and police screaming too cartoony and unsuitable. (should change scream to gasp)
* For Shot 03 (gun being lifted), the hand looks too feminine and needs to look more male to look like it's the husband's hand.
* For Shot 04 (woman turning head), should zoom in a bit to show that the eye in the next shot belongs to the woman.
* Cloth on woman's head should be a stained rag, not a red cloth.
* Composition for Shot 22 (woman asking for husband) should be done that the woman does not have so much head-room and the door-way is bigger than her.
* Coloring is too pixelated.
Well, looks like a lot of things should be done quickly...depends on timeframe. Agenda for now is to back-up on my Mac and my school terminal, and finish animating everything by this Sunday. I also still need a VO for my policeman. Right now, the shot to be done today is Shot 05 (woman's eye widening). I guess this is all for this post, should go back-up all my files now...

Thursday, May 21, 2009

Day 22- May 21 2009- Thursday

I recorded the voice-overs of woman and witness (Vivien and me respectfully) today using Audacity, since I still could not find a candidate for the police officer. Unfortunately, when I returned home and opened up the Audacity file, all the sound data had somewhat disappeared. Oh well, guess I have to record again tomorrow…
My lecturer is going to check on my progress tomorrow. In the meantime, I better go and animate Shot 17 (officer asking woman) now…

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Day 21- May 20 2009- Wednesday

Today, although I planned to record my VOs, I did not manage to: Either there is some problem with the audio equipment, or I really have no memory on how to operate it. Anyway, I followed Vivien’s advice and downloaded the free sound audio editor Audacity into my Mac. I am going to bring it tomorrow so I can use the software to record my voiceovers.
I also animated Shot 20 (wound on woman’s head) today; I still have around 13 shots left to animate, and only three weeks left…*rush, rush*

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Day 20- May 19 2009- Tuesday

Animated Shot 24 (Woman talking) today…oh man, I also did not manage to record VOs. Vivien, my VO for my woman character, suggested that we do it tomorrow. That’s all for now…better go animate Shot 24 now…

Monday, May 18, 2009

Day 19- 18 May 2009- Monday

Over the weekend, I fully animated and colored the pans in my clip: Shots 01 (woman reading), 12 (officer sees corpse) and 16 (woman at door talking). I also animated Shot 26 (police officer talking in walkie-talkie).
Today, when I looked at my production chart, I decided to start animating shots everyday until they are all done in Photoshop, then I export to Flash. I do not think I can afford to take one-day breaks now :P.
I also realised that I am due to record my VOs today and tomorrow...hopefully I can accomplish that (I still have not found a suitable voice actor for my police officer).
Today, I am going to animate Shot 19 (Woman speaking and lifts cloth to reveal bullet wound).
Guess that is all for now...

Friday, May 15, 2009

Day 18- May 15 2009- Friday

I presented my animetics today, and this is the feedback I got from presenting:
* Background music is unsuitable, and redundant, so I guess I will have to chop off some music and save the music for the beginning (until the gunshot is heard against white) and credits.
* Sound effect for Shot 21 (officer looking shocked) is unsuitable and should be taken out.
* No Singlish please…guess I have to edit my script into proper English.
* My lecturer thinks it is best to offer tea first before revealing bullet wound on head…requires a re-arrangement of events but I have to see if I have enough time to make such a huge switch.
* Change my presentation name (Dominatrix Productions…? 0_0)
*Woman seems more psychotic than the husband

That is all for feedback, now I will go animate Shot 21 (Officer looking shocked)…

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Day 17- May 14 2009- Thursday

Some people presented their animetics today; the rest of us will have to present tomorrow. So afterwards, I went back to edit my animetics in Adobe Premiere Pro and export it out. This was how I edit my animetics:
*Put in animated clips,
*"Animated" the pans (Shots 01, 12 and 16), without color,
*And added sound effects and music
Since I do not have my VOs up yet (have not done recording), I guess I will have read out my script tomorrow at presentation
Today, I plan to animate Shot 09 (officer's eye widens as he talks on phone)…that will be all for now…have to go do work

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Day 16- May 13 2009- Wednesday

Just animated Shot 07 (hand reaching for phone) today…that’s all…animetics to be shown to my lecturer this Friday…

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Day 15- May 12 2009- Tuesday

In a nutshell:
*Animated Shot 03 (gun being raised)
*Edited animetics (add in animated shots)… think that clip will be 3 minutes long...for now, pending time looks 2 minutes 40 seconds
*Didn’t do VOs…again (irritated at self)
Hope to animate one more shot tomorrow…

Monday, May 11, 2009

Day 14- May 11 2009- Monday

I have finished animating shots 08 (officer picking up phone and speaking) and 18 (woman listening) over the weekend. I showed the four shots I have animated so far to Vivien, and I have to thank her for pointing out that in Shot 08, the police officer’s arm abruptly went from long to short. Had to correct the arm’s length before re-exporting…it still seem a bit too long, but since it is a quick action, hopefully nobody will notice.
I did not manage to do VOs today as intended according to my production schedule, but luckily, I ‘reserved’ three more days for VO recording. I intend to animate more shots starting from tomorrow…
We watched ‘Tekkonkinkreet’ today…it was both inspiring (I really admire the sacrifice and effort the director and staff put into this animated film), and really demoralized (it will probably take me years to reach that level). But like my lecturer said…”No choice but to move forward.” Yep…just as long as we do not die or commit suicide before then. :P

Friday, May 8, 2009

Day 13- May 8 2009- Friday

Today I managed to animate Shot (not Scene, as pointed out by my lecturer) 10 (the running part). I did have a bit of problem with this one, as I missed out one frame and I sort of have to redraw. But nevertheless, I think the animation is going fine. After some consultation from my lecturer, I decided to change the way I animate a little. So this was how I did Shot 10:
1) I drew up a total of six frames of leg action is total, keeping in mind the position of the legs and stomach when in different poses. I leave them uncolored.
2) I playback in Photoshop using the animation window, and if the animation is fine, I color the frames.
3) Import frames and background into Adobe Flash, and add frames to animate before exporting as a Quicktime movie.
My lecturer later pointed out that Photoshop does not show real-time, so he advise us to use Adobe After Effects and import our layers when previewing the animation. I guess I will keep that in mind for later…anyway, I plan to animate Shot 08 (officer picking up and talking on phone) and Shot 18 (woman listening) over the weekend…hope I do not burn out from Animation 2…

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

Day 12- May 7 2009- Thursday

Yay, animetics are nearly done, and I have finished one scene...27 more to go. Well, as I did my animetics, I figured that including credits, the total clip should be around 21/2 minutes long. I did my animetics in Adobe Premiere Pro, although I have not animated the pans in my animetics, considering that I am either unsure or I have forgotten how to pan a picture up and down in Premiere.
Anyway, I have finished animating Scene 04 (woman turns her head upon hearing gun). This is how I did it:
1) I drew and colored a total of six cels for this scene using Photoshop. After doing one cel, I will save as a new cel, and continue from there. *consistently using 'Save As'*
2) When I am done with drawing and coloring and I am satisfied with my cels, I import into Adobe Flash, and put pictures on stage, add frames, playback until statisfied, then export as Quicktime Movie.
This will be how I will do the rest of my scenes...maybe I work on Scene 10 (officer running) later or tomorrow...I need a running reference though...*looks for running reference in 2D Animation Lab*

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Day 11- May 6 2009- Wednesday

Our lecturer gave me and my group consultation today. He told us the importance of animetics, as they give us the brief plan on the timing and technical parts of the animation. I think I should do a rough animetic first before animating any scene. He also told us the importance of a detailed production chart, telling us not to set it by weeks but rather by days. I showed him the production chart I drew up in Powerpoint yesterday, and he told me a few things to adjust it:
*Days, not weeks.
*If the chart gets too big for size, best to resize it in Excel or somehow, print out the chart on seperate pages.
*Indictate what scenes the numerical titles of scene represent.
Hopefully, I can do the animetics by the end of today so I can start animating scene 04 (woman turning head) tonight...but first, better tackle this gantt chart...

Day 10- May 5 2009- Tuesday

Today, was consultation for some groups (Groups Two and Four, and I think Group One also), so I was left with enough free time to draw up a production chart and (finally!) a script for the clip. I suppose I should be starting work on my animetics this week, so I am hoping to finish animating four scenes this week. But still, I guess I have to spend today looking for sound effects and music. Anyway, I drew up the table in Powerpoint, and since Blogger can’t read tables, I might as well put up the production schedule in text right here, so:
5 May to 10 May→ Find sound effects and music, animate scenes 04, 08, 10 & 25, color frames, and production of animetics

11 May to 17 May→ Record VOs, animate scenes 03, 07, 26, 09, 21 & 11, animate scenes 16,19, 17, 18, 20 & 24, coloring frames and production of animetics

18 May to 24 May→ Record VOs, animate scenes 16, 19, 17, 18, 20 & 24, animate scenes 01, 05, 06, 12, 22 & 23 and coloring frames

25 May to 31 May→ Animate scenes 01, 05, 06, 12, 22 & 23, animate scenes 27, 28, 02, 13, 14 & 15 and coloring frames

1 June to 7 June→ Animating scenes 27, 28, 02, 13, 14 & 15 and coloring frames

8 June to 12 June→ Editing and Combining all scenes

Yep, and here is the script:
Script For MOI P3
(Scene 08)
Police Officer: *picks up phone* Hello?
Witness: Hello, police. I want to report murder.

(Scene 09)
Witness: I got hear two gunshots from my neighbor’s house just now.
Officer: *eyes widen*
Witness: Please come quickly…

(Scene 10)
Officer: *running* Don’t worry, give me the address.I will be right there.

(Scene 16)
Woman: Hello. Can I help you?

(Scene 17)
Officer: Excuse me, I just received a report on two shootings being heard here.

(Scene 18)
Officer: *off-camera* Do you know anything about this?

(Scene 19)
Woman: Shooting? *lifts rag to reveal wound* Oh yah hor…

(Scene 22)
Woman: Ya lah, my husband go shoot me just now…aiyo. Have you seen him?

(Scene 23)
Officer: *points behind* Urmm, ma’am, is he…?

(Scene 24)
Woman: Yah, that’s him. Aiyo..Never mind…

(Scene 25)
Woman: *holds out cup* You want tea?

(Scene 26)
Officer: *speaks into walkie-talkie* Hello,is this the hospital?

(Scene 27)
Woman: *pops out from black* But I’m fine, leh!
Officer: No, you need the hospital!

Ok, that is all for now, I need to go and scour the Internet for sounds and music…

Day 9- May 4 2009- Monday

From today onwards, it’s production on animetics and consultation.
Our lecturer has not exactly given me the green light to start on my animetics; I am still waiting for him to comment on my storyboard.
Other than telling us to start production, he told us to email him our Learning Contract so he can print it out for us (awww ^^).
After emailing our LCs, and after he did a bit of consultation, he showed us two Wallace and Gromit shows (‘A Close Shave’ and ‘The Wrong Trousers’), telling us to look our for visual storytelling. It was then I was reminded of how important camera shots are in telling a story. True, I have arranged my storyboard to tell the story proper…but are the shots good enough?
Anyway, I should be (and hope so) starting work on my animetics sometime this week…I took a look through my scenes, and decided these scenes to be ‘animated’ for the animetics:
*Scene 03 (gun being lifted)
*Scene 04 (woman turning head)
* Scene 07 (hand reaching for phone)
*Scene 08 (officer on phone)
*Scene 10 (running)
* Scene 25 (offering tea)
* Scene 26 (contacting hospital)
* Scene 27 (The End)
*Scene 28 (Credits)
Ok….maybe that will be impossible to complete within such a short time…so I guess my priority for animetics should be:
*Scene 04 (woman turning head)
*Scene 08 (officer on phone)
*Scene 10 (running)
*Scene 25 (offering tea)
Or worse case scenario, do not animate first and just throw everything together with voice-over, sound effects and music. Which means, my utmost priority is audio; I am going to need voice-overs (or resort to scratch audio) and sound effects and music.
I guess the search for audio should begin tomorrow…

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Day 8- April 30 2009- Thursday

I finally presented today…it seems that there is nothing wrong with my story flow, though my lecturer did comment that my dialogue was way too wordy and elaborate, and for a clip that should be two to three minutes in length, the dialogue may increase that time to six to eight minutes (yikeys!!). So I have to cut down on the dialogue a fair bit.
I thought about how I want to do up my frames, and what to do over the long weekend. As for frames/cels/scenes, I will draw the scenes and their frames in Photoshop, though for some of the scenes, I will do in Flash.
I am also thinking of changing the shot size for Panel 04 in my storyboard (yes, the one where the woman turns her head at the sound of the gun being clicked) as my lecturer pointed out that my proportions were off, and I can’t really draw full-shots of people sitting on chairs.
Maybe for the long weekend, I will hunt for sound effects, and if time permits, maybe start some production on a few scenes.
I guess this will be all for now…

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Day 7- April 29 2009- Wednesday

Today was presentation day…luckily, I was not one of those who presented today, since after seeing those who presented, I decided mine needs tweaking. So I better go tweak my presentation for tomorrow now…

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Day 6- April 29 2009- Tuesday

Still working on storyboards…well, today my lecturer said that we have to post the links to our three stories (the one we picked as well as the other two we did not pick), so here are the URLS:
1) Woman shot in head makes tea (the one I am doing)→ http://news.scotsman.com/weirdoddandquirkystories/Woman-shot-in-head-offers.5183901.jp

2) Man stabs friend over stink→ http://www.vinaminh.com/2009/04/man-kills-friend-over-stinks/

3) Woman accused of taping dog to fridge→ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30264241/

Presentation is tomorrow…*rushes*

Monday, April 27, 2009

Day 5- April 27 2009- Monday

I managed to finish my (uncolored as of now) character designs over the weekend, so now I have the storyboards left to tackle.
I had consultation today, and to sum it up, this was the advice I got:

*Learning Contract too vague; must edit a bit
* Humans out of proportion
* Try not to combine a creepy mood with a funny mood (unless by a miracle, you can pull it off)

I guess that is all for now...have to go back to my storyboards...

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Day 4- April 24 2009- Friday

Luckily, this is the last day I will be missing class because of CCA Recruitment Drive. So I tried to come back as early as possible after that little improvisation-suicide-jumper stunt DramaTec pulled off at the Mushroom…only to find out that once again, class has ended without me. Luckily, my lecturer kindly explained to me that there would be group consultations on Monday and Tuesday, as well as Wednesday and Thursday being Interim 1 Presentation Days. He went on to explain what to present at Interim 1:
1) Storyboards
2) Character Designs
3) Research Plan
4) Reference Materials
5) Sypnosis
I guess I better gear up for a busy weekend ahead…planning to do storyboards and character designs digitally since I need to present in a folder later…

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Day 3- April 23 2009- Thursday

Once again, I had to miss class due to CCA Recruitment Drive. So when I came back, my friends told me what I missed: Basically, today they learned the Learning Contract (which I got from Angie), and they were also required to answer the ‘Very Important Questions’ on their Reflective Blog. So here is my Learning Contract and ‘Very Important Questions’ answered:

VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:
1. Who are you telling the story for (primary audience)?
The general public, preferably aged 13 to 40

2. What reaction do you want?
That they are surprised, yet find it hilarious.

3. Is the narrative omniscient (all seeing) or restrictive (viewed from a single perspective)?
Restricted, from police officer's viewpoint.

4. List the important events of the story.
* Woman is reading book in room
* Shadow of husband sneaks up behind her with gun
*A gun shot is heard
*Police officer is contacted
*He rushes to house.
*He is stunned to find dead body of husband outside house with gun in hand--> thought woman was supposed to be victim
*Hears sound
*Turns around and sees woman standing in front of him, with a towel on her head
*Woman looks confused, and she asks what is going on--> policeman looks at her, shocked
* Woman smiles and asks policeman if he wants something to drink
*Policeman is still stunned, but finally calls hospital
*Hospital picks up woman, who is still confused on what is happening--> policeman tries to explain although he is still shocked

5. Which aspects of the setting of the story are important (time of day… location… period of history…) and how do you intend to establish these important elements?
Location should be localised, in present time, so people can identify with characters. Takes place in evening (dark lighting can add suspense). Singlish is used to add 'local flavour'.

6. What traits of the characters in your story are important and how do you intend to establish these traits?
Husband--> murderous and despressed (representated mainly by a shadow)
Woman--> Really sweet-natured, but is seriously naive and innocent (wide eyes and yellow dress)
Police officer--> Determined to do his job but his brave impression turns into one of surprise and confusion when he sees the woman

7. In what order are the important events (step 4 above) covered? Is it a strictly linear sequence of events in time, or does the story contain any flashbacks or other interruptions to the sequence of events?
Linear, 'murder scene' plays out before cutting to scene when policeman is contacted.

8. How does the story flow, does the pace change? Does it contain a surprise? Consider your answers to 1 and 2 above when making your response.
Yes it contains a surprise (revelation of woman's well-being), and the pace slows down a bit at that revelation.

9. How will you use sound to help all your responses to 5-8 above?
Eerie music at first, to connote suspense...then, it goes silent when the woman is revealed to be alive before going into a more light-hearted tune.

10. Does your story need dialog?
Yes, but for now, the dialogue is undecided...

I guess this is all for now…

Day 2- April 22 2009- Wednesday

I did not turn up for nearly the whole lesson, due to helping out with DramaTec’s booth for CCA Recruitment Drive. When my shift was over, I headed back to class where I was greeted by 20-something-over pairs of eyes boring into me as I entered the lab. Luckily, my lecturer was most understanding, and so I showed him my three story ideas:
1) Woman shot in head serves tea to officer
2) Man stabs friend over stink
3) Woman accused of taping dog to fridge
After showing him these three stories, he then asked me which story I like the most…I told him that it was to be ‘Woman tapes dog to fridge’. But then, he told me that to select that one shows that I merely got it from the brief (although I really found it on the Internet having ‘ignored’ the brief). So in the end, I went ahead with ‘Woman shot in head’.
Now with my story selected, I have to wait for my lecturer to give the next step…

Day 1- April 21 2009- Tuesday

Basic Agenda: Do a short animation clip, 3 minutes maximum, on any weird news report.
Today was the first day of MOI Project 3…we were then told by our lecturer that the reason that we have to have Project 3, was in order to have some preparation for Final-Year Project. We were then given copies of the Assignment Brief and Lesson Scheme, before being split into groups (only for this day). After grouping, each group was given a paper slip, on which was a quirky news report. We were also given a set of very important questions, to help us group our thoughts and figure the purpose and inner structure of the animation.
My group got ‘Tickled Pink’, about a man who got jumped, then tickled by some mysterious person. So we put up a Powerpoint presentation, using the questions given to lay out the structure, then helping us form some visual idea of how we want the story to look if we were to animate it.
After we presented, we were then given our homework for the day: Find three weird news reports, and present to the class the next day.
Class Dismiss, and when I got home that evening, I soured the Internet until I found three suitable candidates...
